From the back cover:

Evocative reflections on trauma, somatic healing, and the state of the world deliver a universal message of profound hope: we can heal.

For many, the experience of trauma is hidden away, all too often shrouded in secrecy, silence, and even shame. But trauma isn’t an isolated experience, something that happens “out there to other people.” It’s part of our human condition, embodied within us individually and collectively. And, as Laurie Lee Davidson boldly asks, “Shouldn’t we be talking about this?”

From the microcosm of personal transformation to the macrocosm of global healing, Growing into the Gray is equal parts life story and social prescription. Davidson demystifies the meaning of trauma and invites readers to view their lives and our world through a new lens, that of the body, offering a vision for open-hearted living in complex times. Her expertise is born from lived experience, and she holds nothing back, taking you deep inside her own story. Vivid, at times raw, often humorous, and laced throughout with compassion, Growing into the Gray calls for us all to wake up from the unconscious grip of fear, face and heal our past wounding, and use the power of our newfound wholeness for the benefit of ourselves, each other, and our precious planet.

“Why did I create this book? Because of two intertwined dynamics—healing and helping. First, as my healing progressed, a desire to help others experience their own propelled me to my laptop. Then writing about my healing ended up furthering it. This, in turn, gave me the courage to opt for publishing to help more folks. And that undertaking has now unexpectedly ushered me into even greater healing. Wow! Where will the vital dance of this pair of seemingly inseparable forces takes me next?”

Growing up in Flames

Status: Being written

A memoir of anger’s healing power paints an intimate portrait of one woman’s recovery from sexual trauma, the deep work required to achieve it, and the blessings she found on the other side.

I am crafting this book to be a poignant, no-holds-barred depiction of the nitty-gritty of my sexual healing and how making friends with rage was key. Having transcended shame for the most part, I am endeavoring to tell my story with the honesty and frankness it deserves as well as with the love and tenderness it requires. I see this book as my gift to other women who have survived sexual violence. My message: we can grow beyond it.

Growing down to Earth

Status: In concept

Personal tales of overcoming childhood religious trauma point the way to transcending its deleterious effects and claiming full health and maturity of body, mind, and spirit.

This book only exists in my head currently. (I’ve lived the experiences. I just haven’t had time to write about them.) And, because there’s one in line before it, it’ll have to wait to get fleshed out.
